Plans & Billing
Choose the option that matches how you use OpenPatent:
- An OpenPatent Pro subscription powers the web app and hosted MCP server.
- API Credit powers direct REST API requests and does not require a subscription.
You can use either option or both. Their credit balances are managed separately.
OpenPatent — Free
The free plan includes the patent database, basic semantic search, patent summaries, chat, activity history, and partially redacted patentability reports. It has no time limit and requires no credit card.
OpenPatent Pro
Pro starts at $200 per month for 20,000 credits. Self-serve tiers increase by $100 and 10,000 credits at a time, up to 200,000 credits per month.
Pro credits can be used in the web app and hosted MCP server. They refresh monthly and do not roll over.

Annual billing includes two months free. Your credits still refresh each month.
Subscription Add-ons
Customers with an active paid subscription can buy Add-ons in $30 increments, with each increment adding 2,000 credits. Add-on credits:
- expire 12 months after purchase; and
- can be used while the paid subscription is active.
API Credit
API Credit is purchased separately at a list price of $200 per 10,000 credits. Purchases start at 10,000 credits and increase in $100 / 5,000-credit increments.
Purchased API Credit never expires and does not require a subscription. Volume discounts apply automatically as you buy more during the year. See API Credit for the discount tiers and an example.
OpenPatent Enterprise
Organizations with larger or more specialized requirements can arrange custom pricing and annual commitments. Contact Sales to discuss an agreement.
Free trials
Pro and API access have independent trials:
- Eligible accounts can start a 14-day Pro trial with 10,000 credits for the web app and hosted MCP server.
- Eligible accounts receive 10,000 non-expiring API credits after creating their first API key.
Starting or using one trial does not consume the other.
